Journeys of Paul with Jeff and Chris Manion - September 2027

 

1st DAY  / September 12, 2027 / Arrival THESSALONIKI AIRPORT - THESSALONIKI Overnight

Arrival at Thessaloniki Airport. Upon arrival, individuals will take taxis or Ubers  to the hotel in Thessaloniki for check-in. Dinner on your own.

 

2nd DAY / September 13, 2027 / THESSALONIKI Overnight

Breakfast and leisure/recovery day. Our first official gathering will be at the hotel just prior to walking to dinner this evening. 

 

3rd DAY / September 14, 2027 / THESSALONIKI - PHILIPPI - KAVALA - THESSALONIKI Overnight

After breakfast, we depart for Kavala, biblical Neapolis, were Paul first set foot on European soil. After lunch, we depart for Philippi, a site rich in early Christian history. First we visit the Baptistery of Lydia by the river, where Paul baptized her, the first Christian convert on European soil, followed later by the conversion of the Philippian jailer. We also explore the archaeological remains of the Forum of Philippi, the Christian Basilicas, the “Prison of Paul,” and the ancient Theater.   In the evening, we return to Thessaloniki.

 

 

 

4th DAY / September 15, 2027 / THESSALONIKI Overnight

After breakfast, we will start our tour of Thessaloniki. We will walk to Roman Forum, then the nearby Church of Dimitrius. After lunch we will visit the Arch of Galerius and the Rotunda. The remainder of the afternoon is free for leisure. 

 

5th DAY / September 16, 2027 / THESSALONIKI - VERIA - VERGINA - KALAMBAKA Overnight

After breakfast, we will depart for the capital of Imathia, Veria (Berea), built at the foot of Mount Vermio. Upon arrival, you will visit the Step of Apostle Paul and the historic Synagogue, located next to the Barbouta area, which over time became known as the Jewish District. The stone-built Synagogue is the oldest in Northern Greece. After lunch, we will continue to Vergina, where we will visit the Royal Tombs Museum, featuring four tombs and a small shrine known as the Heroes Garden. Among these, the most significant are the tomb of Philip II and that of Alexander IV. Our journey then continues to Kalambaka. 

 

6th DAY / September 17, 2027 / KALAMBAKA - METEORA - ARACHOVA Overnight

After breakfast, we visit the world-famous Byzantine monasteries of Meteora, dramatically perched atop towering gray rock formations of striking and varied shapes. Their history dates back to the 14th century, when monks first sought refuge in the natural caves of the cliffs, later ascending even higher to construct simple wooden shelters. Over time, these evolved into the remarkable monasteries we see today. En route to Delphi, we also stop at Thermopylae, the legendary battlefield where King Leonidas and his 300 Spartans made their heroic last stand against the vast Persian army. We then continue our journey onward to Delphi.  

 

7th DAY / September 18, 2027 / ARACHOVA - DELPHI - ATHENS Overnight

After breakfast, we will depart for Delphi, an ancient Greek city that was home to the most important oracle in the ancient Greek world. According to early myths and traditions, the site was already significant in the pre-classical period (as early as 1400 BC). The Pythia, or Delphic Oracle, served as a major religious center, later dedicated to the worship of the god Apollo after he slew Python, the serpent who guarded the navel of the Earth. We will enjoy a guided tour of both the archaeological site and the Museum.  We then continue our journey onward to Athens.  

 

8th DAY / September 19, 2027 / ATHENS Overnight

After breakfast, we will begin our tour at the agora, or ancient forum, of Athens, where Paul debated the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers.  Our tour continues with a visit to Mars Hill (Acts 17:16–34) and the Acropolis, where we will see its magnificent monuments, including the Parthenon, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion, the Propylaea, the Ancient Agora, the Theatre of Dionysus, and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus. We will have the opportunity to walk around the Parthenon, built in the 5th century BC by the architects Ictinus and Kallikrates. Free time will be provided in the charming Plaka area before returning to the hotel. 

 

9th DAY / September 20, 2027 / ATHENS Overnight

Breakfast and leisure day. Lunch and Dinner on your own in Athens.

 

10th DAY / September 21, 2027 / NAFPLION - ANCIENT CORINTH - CENCHREAE - NAFPLION Overnight

After breakfast, we continue our sightseeing with a visit to Ancient Corinth, the once-glorious city near the Isthmus, where the Apostle Paul met Aquila and Priscilla and spent a year and a half preaching the Word of God. During our visit, we explore the Archaeological Museum, the Forum, the Temples, and the famous Bema, where Paul stood before Gallio, accused by the Jews of Corinth. On our way to Nafplion we will visit the stadium of Nemea. 

 

  11th DAY / September 22, 2027 / NAFPLION - MYCENAE - EPIDAURUS - NAFPLION Overnight

After breakfast, we will depart for Mycenae, one of the most important archaeological sites of ancient Greece and the legendary kingdom of Agamemnon. Upon arrival, we will visit the impressive archaeological site, including the famous Lion Gate, the Cyclopean Walls, and the remains of the ancient citadel. We will also visit the Treasury of Atreus, one of the finest examples of Mycenaean architecture. Afterwards, we will continue to Epidaurus, renowned in antiquity as an important healing center dedicated to Asclepius, the god of medicine. Here, we will visit the magnificent Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, famous for its exceptional acoustics and remarkable state of preservation. Following our visit, we will return to Nafplion. Free time for dinner on your own.

 

 

12th DAY / September 23, 2027 / NAFPLION Overnight

After breakfast, we will begin our exploration of Nafplion, one of the most beautiful and historic towns in Greece and the first capital of the modern Greek state. We will visit the impressive Palamidi Fortress, perched high above the city and offering magnificent panoramic views over Nafplion and the Argolic Gulf. Built by the Venetians in the early 18th century, the fortress is one of the finest examples of Venetian military architecture in Greece. Afterwards, we will continue to the historic center of Nafplion, where you will have free time to explore its picturesque streets, elegant neoclassical buildings, charming squares, and waterfront promenade. The remainder of the day will be at leisure in Nafplion. Farewell dinner at a local restaurant.

 

 

 

13th Day / September 24, 2027 / NAFPLION - ATHENS AIRPORT Departure

After breakfast, we will depart from Nafplion and transfer to Athens International Airport for your departure flight. As our journey comes to an end, we take with us wonderful memories of Greece, its rich history, remarkable archaeological treasures, and beautiful landscapes.

 

 

Rates: $5,450 per passenger (double occupancy). $1600 surcharge for single room.

 

These rates include accommodations, most meals, site admissions, English speaking guides, travel by luxury touring coach, all tips for guides and drivers.

 

Rates exclude international flights, some meals, beverages, personal expenses, visas (if necessary), travel insurance.
